The Gore Mth U18 racers announce:
Patrick's Ski Shop
What: Get your skis tuned (sharpened and waxed) for Kandahar by the Gore U18 racers. We will be waxing with the appropriate CH wax unless you provide a wax you would prefer us to use. We are working to raise money to help the Larsen family with some of the expenses for Patrick.
When: Leave your skis with us Sunday February 27th and they will be ready for pick up the Saturday morning of Kandahar. Leave your skis with us the Saturday afternoon of Kandahar and they will be ready for pick up the Sunday morning of Kandahar
Where: drop off and pick up will be in the Gore NYSEF training center
Cost: A suggested donation of $20 per tuning, however any amount would be appreciated
If you have any questions, please contact me at dskufca@nycap.rr.com.

Kandahar Reminder
Hi All,
A quick reminder about Kandahar. The race is being held this year on March 2nd and 3rd. If your child is not competing, there will be no U10/12 program that weekend. We need all hands on deck for the race!
If you are not registered already, please do so. You can register using Alpinereg.com. Be sure your child is a USSA and NYSSRA member also as they will not be eligible to race unless they are members of both organizations!
Thanks,
Jess

U10/12 World Cup #4
Race 4. Sunday February 17,2013
It was a cold and fairly blustery day but what a day for some slalom racing! The race went off without a hitch and time differentials continue to decrease between our first and last racers. Coach Corbin made the kids turn and kept it tight!

JV World Cup #3
Well, the results are finally in! Please see below for WC 3 results. Sunday dawned a chilly but beautiful day. Earlier in the week I wrote Louise Larsen and email about how wacky the weather was and how I was sure that that was a sign that even Mother Nature was on Team Patrick. When I loaded the triple chair on Sunday and was able to see into the High Peaks and watch the sun rise, I knew it was a sign of good things to come both race wise and with Pat's surgery. What a glorious day it turned out to be! We saw some great skiing, lots of kids pushing their limits and few great recoveries and arrived home to great new about Patrick. I was particularly impressed with how narrow the margin of victory was in most of the races which means we have some new faces charging toward the front of the pack. We need some line work but all things come in due time. Great job racers, many thanks to our amazing course crew and thanks to everyone who weekly proves to us how great our extended NYSEF family is!

World Cup #2 Results
Hi all,
So race 2 was an adventure in weather and timing. We were unable to hard wire the race due to some staffing issues (namely Bone's lack of mobility and Rich's need to attend a u14 race). The Brower timing had been working perfectly during training but alas, the weather threw us a curve ball. After timing was set up, the snowflakes and wind kicked up. Snowflakes the size of baseballs were being blown into the finish eyes and were registering false finishes. With a little fast thinking and some ingenuity on the part of the U10/12 crew, we figured out a solution and the race went off without a hitch after that. We saw every type of weather we possibly could and conditions during the race were variable at best. Despite the challenges Mother Nature dealt us, the kids were still smiling and enjoyed playing on the slide at the start. Thanks to all of you for your patience!

New NYSEF Parent Policy
Please see below for the new NYSEF parent policy. While we understand that parent involvement is an important part of any sport, we do ask that parents read the following and do their best to abide by it. Coat carrying is a necessity however at the U10/12 level on race days as is some parent help with slipping. If you have questions or concerns about this policy, please see Bone or Rich.
Parent expectations with regards to racing/training venues
1. The race/train venue is the “athlete’s sanctuary”. Parents are expected to remain
outside of the venue. Much the same as a hockey game or most any sporting event,
parents are welcomed to enjoy the event from viewing areas that do not interfere with
the athletes. Generally speaking, when our athletes are inside the “fences” parents are
expected to remain on the outside looking in.
2. In the event that a parent is a volunteer or worker for the race, the parent should put
the event as their top priority. Undoubtedly, our events do not happen without parent
involvement and we do not want to discourage parents from being involved at all.
However, please do not use this as a way to gain access to their sanctuary!!
3. Start areas are off limits to parents. This is critical to letting the coaches do the coaching.
Athletes perform their best when they have the ability to clearly focus on the task at
hand. The transportation of clothing from the start is the responsibility of the coaches.
4. Course inspection is off limits to parents: Coaches are responsible for inspection
techniques of their athletes. Athletes will be informed of their responsibilities as they
pertain to inspection. Again this is critical to their long term success.
5. Course reports. Coaches are responsible for all information as it pertains to course
conditions, tactics, times, etc. .. We ask that parents do not bring their own radios
or use cell phones to relay information to their children. If this becomes an issue, we
reserve the right to remove radios and or cell phones from the athletes.
6. Ski prep: All work is to be completed prior to the event (i.e. sharpening, waxing, overlays, etc).
Please remember, the start area is a parent free zone. Coaches are responsible for additional
needs as they see fit.
7. It will be the coaches responsibility to handle all aspects of race regulations. This includes but is
not limited to DSQ’s, reruns, interference, equipment specs, etc.
8. The most important expectations: Have fun, support, and enjoy your children in their
participation of a great sport!!!
“Failure is not fatal, but failing to change might be.” John Wooden
“Individual commitment to a group effort – that is what makes a team work, a
company work, a society work, a civilization work.” Vince Lombardi on Teamwork
