 1. Sunday January 6th
 2. Sunday January 20th
3. Sunday February 3rd
 4. Sunday February 17th
 5. Sunday March 17th
Locations are all TBD by NYSEF and Gore Mountain management. Disciplines are subject to change depending on terrain and snow conditions. We'll do our best to let everyone know ahead of time if there is a change.

Look for results from our first round of skills testing administered yesterday (Friday, December 28)coming to your email. Please be sure to check out the link below to access the test descriptions.  Chart below for the explanation of your child's score for each skill.  A score of 5/10 is average!  Remember, this was a baseline test and we are looking for results in March to improve. We used the Phase 2 tests minus the side slip and added a specific pole plant evaluation. Check out the skills quest website for video demonstrations of each skill. http://ussa.org/alpine-programs/athletes/development/skillsquest/activities-by-phase/phase-2/skiing

A description of what we are looking for as far as pole plant can be found below:

Pole Plant                    The pole plant is a requisite skiing skill best learned during the early skill acquisition phase.  Mastery of pole plant execution will be based on poles planted angled forward, arms forward with economy of movement utilizing the hands and wrists, quiet upper body with minimal unnecessary movement, and proper timing where the pole plant triggers the release of edge angle.

The test will be through two trials of twelve to sixteen consecutive medium radius turns with the best score of the two utilized for the assessment.  For mastery the first trial must be judged as proficiency with either single or double pole plant then the second trial would demonstrate the other.
Score of 1       Entry Level    Lack of pole plant fundamentals

Subtract 1 point for each turn lacking a pole plant
Subtract ½ pt. for each turn needing improvement in timing of pole plant or pole plant on wring
                        side of body.
Subtract ½ pt. for each turn where pole plant placement is not angled forward, next to body or
                        not in front of skis.
Subtract ½ pt. for each turn lacking quiet upper body.
